New Breakfast Nook Table....

2/23/2017

In addition to my kitchen refresh with new counters and bar stools, I also purchased a new breakfast nook table. I needed a table that was very durable, regular height as well as a lighter color table to assist in the brightening up of my kitchen area. I previously had a counter height table and this just wasn't working for my 2 year old becuase it was more difficult for her to sit comfortably and safe, plus a regular height table is more intimate and cozy I think. This is not the best photo, but it is the only one I have of my old table.

My old table has been with us for a long time and never really fit into my breakfast nook as far as I was concerned. Once we moved into our home (2 years ago)....I knew this is a piece of furniture we would be replacing eventually. I chose to go with a round table and I love it! I also purchased a round rug to go underneath it. I feel my breakfast nook is much cozier now. My table and chairs are Hooker furniture, which is solid wood. It is very heavy and sturdy. I am definitely a Hook furniture fan now!

My new table has an 18 inch wide leaf that I am not currently using. It will change the table into a large oval shape. I will probably use it during special occassions. The table can seat 6 with the leaf. I love distressed furniture. This was a perfect fit for my kitchen area. To pull the table and rug together I purchased a new chandlier to go above the table. It is important to complete your room or area you are updating from top to bottom. Things to keep in mind are rugs, light fixtures, wall art and outlet covers. If you can't do it all at once,  just do what you can....but before "completing" that room, make sure you look at the fine details. The small details are what can make the biggest difference sometimes.

So here is the final outcome of my breakfast nook. I still have some wall art plans before this room is complete. Of course I will share those fun updates once I get started!

Here are a couple of upclose shots of the table and chair details.

My Kitchen Refresh

2/20/2017

We built and purchased our home 2 years ago. One of the the areas of my home that is very important to me and makes me happy is my kitchen. We did upgrade our kitchen when we built the home to include a gas stove and 2 ovens, but the counter tops, backsplash and sink were 3 cosmetic aspects that we knew we would change later on.

We recently had our new quartz countertops put in and I lOVE them! I chose to go with quartz because they are overall more durable than granite. Because I cook A LOT and I knew I wanted very light counters, I knew it was imperative that I go with the hardest substance possible that needed the least amount of maintenance. After doing our homework, quartz was the winner! We haven't completed that backsplash yet, but we will very soon! My style is more of a warm farmhouse feel. My kitchen cabinets are dark, which I love, however because my floors are also dark....it makes for a really dark kitchen, which I do not like. My previous countertops in the picture below are laminate and dark.

Along with my countertops, we also purchased 4 new counter height stools to sit up to the island/bar. I love these as well. They are very comfortable! Anytime someone stops by, I am usually in the kitchen, so they plop down at the bar and talk to me while I cook. The new bar stools not only bring a great level of comfort, but are also very pretty! I love the nailhead design along the edges of the chair. When you enter my home and head into our great room/living room....one of the first things you see are these bar stools. The nailhaead design really makes a difference in the overall appeal to me.

When we designed our home, we had them prewire 3 areas above our island so we could eventually put up some additional lighting. I am so glad we did! I purchased these beautiful pendant lights from Lowe's online. I feel that they go perfect in our kitchen and it fits the style I am going for.

I highly suggest to wait on making changes to rooms in your home, unless you know exactly what you want and what it is going to look like. I looked and found a photo on Pinterest that best displayed the overall look I was going for and it really helped me in confirming my decisions on some of the items we chose.

As we make the additional changes, I will share them with you all!
