Chili is one of those dishes that can be made 1,000 different ways. Some like it savory, spicy, sweet, tangy, tomato based, meatless, beanless, chunky, smooth.....the list goes on and on. I am going to share my basic recipe with you. I personally like chili many ways, but this is the recipe my hubby prefers, He doesn't like tomatoes and my son doesn't like spicy foods. I like both, but I made a compromise with my family by using this recipe.
This recipe is simple, chunky and savory!
2lbs of ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 clove of garlic, minced
3 cans of chiil beans (undrained)
1 can of black beans (drained)
4-5 Tablespoons of chili powder
1/2 cup of ketchup
4 cups of water
Salt to taste
Garlic & onion powder to taste
On medium heat, brown ground beef, garlic & chopped onions in a stock pot. Drain beef mixture. Mix in the rest of the ingredients. Bring to a boil and then turn on low heat. Taste the chili to see if you need to add anything.
*Keep in mind, if you prefer your chili chunky....less water or if you prefer more liquid add water. When you add water you may also need to add additional seasoning to maintain flavor. Feel free to add tomatoes, if you like or add more chili powder to spice it up! Adjust ingredients to your liking!
